The Institute of Literary Symbiosis
2018

As part of Added Value, an event put on at SFMOMA by Stephanie Syjuco and Public Knowledge, a group of artists was asked to re-purpose books donated to Friends of the San Francisco Public Library. For my project, I cut seven science fiction novels in half. I then wrote a short science fiction story to insert between halves of two different novels, changing the beginning and the ending to align with the the end of one half and the beginning of the next half. Below is the version I inserted between the first half of Drowning World by Alan Dean Foster and the second half of Nature's End by Whitley Strieber and James Kunetka. I re-bound the books with glow-in-the-dark binding. Sales of these and the other artists' book projects went to Friends of the San Francisco Public Library.
