Satellite Tourist
2011-present
Satellite Tourist is an ongoing collection of strange, surreal locations and phenomena I find on Google Satellite View. They may be actually present in the physical landscape or a byproduct of a technological fluke (splicing errors, missing imagery, etc.). Originally the collection was a secondary project, a repository of the occasional oddities I would find while scouring Google Maps for swimming pools, parking lots, and other specific structures for the Satellite Collections. However, as the collection (and the number of visitors) grew, what came into focus was the very real interest these specifc views command in themselves -- the banal transmuted into the alien, like a glimpse of another planet that only on a second glance is ours.
